5 Best Formstack Alternatives 2026 Review
If you’ve used Formstack previously and you’re looking to change to another online form builder, this Formstack alternatives guide will cover everything you need to know.

Formstack is a no-code online form builder that helps you build advanced forms without any technical knowledge. While it does a great job at this, we found that many users complained about a few drawbacks. Specifically:
- There is no free plan: Formstack offers a trial, but once it ends you need a paid plan to keep your forms live. If you only need a couple of forms, that is a big commitment.
- Form and submission caps on the entry plan: The Forms plan limits you to 25 forms and 1,000 submissions per form, which is tight for a team that runs many small forms.
- E-signatures and documents cost extra: Signature collection is only included in the Suite bundle, which is a big jump in price from the Forms plan. FormBuilder includes a signature field on every plan.
- Formstack is quite expensive: The most affordable Formstack plan costs $99 monthly ($83 per month billed annually). Prices checked September 2026.
In this guide, we discuss five Formstack alternatives that solve the limitations mentioned above. We begin talking about our solution first, FormBuilder, because that's the tool we're most familiar with. We then cover the benefits of Google Forms, Jotform, Typeform, and Paperform.
Note: Although FormBuilder is our own tool, we tried to make this review as objective as possible by fairly discussing our features, benefits, and limitations. However, we're also proud of what FormBuilder does well, so if you want to give FormBuilder a try, you can sign up here without entering your card details.
1. FormBuilder: Build beautiful forms with AI, start free, pay far less
In this section, we'll show you how FormBuilder addresses the four drawbacks mentioned in the introduction:
- You can build a form using AI
- You can start on a free plan
- Signatures, payments, file uploads and integrations are included
- FormBuilder's pricing plans are affordable
You can build a form using AI
Formstack has added AI form creation, but it sits behind a paid plan. With FormBuilder, the AI form generator is available from the free plan. All you have to do is describe the form you need, and the AI drafts it for you.
For example, if you type "write a job application form for a marketing position," FormBuilder will produce a draft with the usual contact fields, a resume upload, and a few role-specific questions.
Of course, this form isn't perfect, and you'll have to add certain questions, remove other questions, and change things around depending on your personal preferences, but it's a better starting point than a basic template. If you already have a form elsewhere, you can also import it from a PDF, a URL, Jotform, or Typeform instead of rebuilding it.
You can start on a free plan
Formstack expects you to pay from day one. FormBuilder's free plan gives you 5 active forms and 100 responses per month with no credit card, and it includes conditional logic, multi-page forms, templates, and email notifications. That is enough to run a contact form, a registration form and a feedback survey for a small business without paying anything.
When you outgrow it, the Pro plan adds 100 active forms, 10,000 responses per month, removes the FormBuilder badge, and lets you use custom branding and custom domains.
Signatures, payments, file uploads and integrations are included
Formstack splits its products into Forms, Documents and Sign, and the price climbs quickly as you add pieces. FormBuilder keeps the common needs in one place: signature fields, Stripe payment fields, file uploads, thank-you pages and redirects, password-protected and scheduled forms, and form analytics that show views, starts and completions.
Submissions can go straight to Google Sheets, to a webhook, or to more than 100 apps through Zapier, including Salesforce, HubSpot, Mailchimp and Slack.
FormBuilder is much more affordable than Formstack
The fourth problem we discovered when talking to Formstack users is the sheer price.
The most affordable Formstack plan costs $99 per month ($83 per month if billed annually) and limits you to 25 forms. Although this plan does offer payment collection, third-party integration, custom themes, and other great features, it's still quite pricey.
FormBuilder's Pro plan costs $39 per month with a 14-day free trial. It gives you access to payment collection features, Google Sheets and Zapier integrations, custom domains, and the AI form generator. A HIPAA plan is available on request at $99 per month if you need to collect health information. See pricing for details.
2. Google Forms
Another great Formstack alternative, especially if you're on a budget, is Google Forms. Creating a form with Google Forms is completely free, and you don't have to sign up for an account (if you're already logged into your Google account.)
Although not as advanced as Formstack and FormBuilder, it does the basics right. You can create various types of forms, including job application, contact, and survey forms. From here, you can access basic response summaries, and embed your form on your website by simply copying and pasting an embed snippet.
We also like that Google Forms integrates with all Google products, such as Google Sheets, Google Slides, and Google Docs, as well as third-party applications like Trello, Slack, and Zapier.
3. Jotform
If you're looking for more advanced features, consider Jotform. There is a free Starter plan with 5 forms and 100 submissions per month, and the cheapest paid plan costs $39 per month ($34 per month billed yearly) for up to 25 forms. Jotform has all the features you'd expect from an online form builder, including logic jumps, e-signatures, answer piping, offline forms, and Google reCAPTCHA. It also has its own AI form generator.
But what stood out to us was that Jotform allows users to show different forms and questions based on where the respondent lives. This is a feature that not many form builders have.
You can get started by signing up for the free plan, and the tool will take you to the editor's dashboard, where you'll find multiple fields inside the toolbar. You can drag and drop these fields onto your form to customize it.
However, it's worth remembering that Jotform's free plan carries Jotform branding, and the paid plans climb to $129 per month for the Gold tier.
4. Typeform
If you're looking for a tool specializing in creating forms that show one question at a time, consider Typeform. By asking one question at a time and not allowing users to browse through your entire survey at once, you reduce survey fatigue, increasing form completion rates.
Typeform offers all the typical features of a form builder, including custom forms, payment collection, signature collection, conditional logic, automated workflows, and third-party integrations. The free plan allows 100 responses per month, and paid plans start at $25 per month billed yearly.
However, a common complaint we found when reading Typeform reviews was that the monthly subscription is quite pricey once you need more responses or team seats.
5. Paperform
The last online form builder we'd like to discuss is Paperform. Paperform's strength lies in its unique pricing plans.
It's one of the only form builders that allows you to create an unlimited number of forms on every plan, including the free one, which is useful if you're creating bulk forms. However, it's important to note that the free plan limits you to 30 submissions per month. The Essentials plan costs $24 per month and includes 1,200 submissions per year, with extra submissions sold in blocks.
Another thing that caught our attention was the amount of templates Paperform offers. You can choose between hundreds of templates to build your form. Paperform supports surveys, job application forms, interview forms, payment collection forms, you name it!
In addition to being able to generate an unlimited number of forms and having a big template library, Paperform does everything right. You can set up advanced logic jumps, securely collect payments and signatures, score tests automatically, connect to third-party applications, and more.
