Connect an AI agent to FormBuilder

Use your assistant’s remote MCP connection or a dedicated API key. Start with private drafts and grant publishing separately.

Workflow

Steps

  1. 1Sign in to FormBuilder. Open Settings → API & Integrations → Manage agent connections, or visit /settings/agents.
  2. 2If your assistant supports remote MCP with OAuth, add https://api.formbuilder.com/mcp in its connection settings. Review the permissions on the FormBuilder consent screen. Client controls vary.
  3. 3For the new draft workflow, request forms:read, forms:create and forms:edit. Add forms:publish only if you want the assistant to publish or unpublish. Existing connections must explicitly obtain these new grants; they are not added automatically.
  4. 4If your client cannot request the new OAuth scopes, create an expiring agent key on the Agent connections page and enter it in the client’s secure configuration as a Bearer token. Never paste the key into a conversation.
  5. 5Ask: “Use create_draft to create a private workshop registration form with name, email and session preference. Do not publish.”
  6. 6Open the returned preview link while signed in, then request a revision. When ready, explicitly ask the assistant to publish. Check the actual returned status and public link.

Example follow-up

“Make email required and add a dietary preferences question. Keep the other fields.” The assistant should inspect the latest form before applying changes.

Existing client connections

The older create_form tool still exists for compatibility. It uses forms:write, can publish during creation and does not provide the new retry protection. Use create_draft for the new workflow.

Preview requires sign-in

Private draft links are for authenticated owners or authorized collaborators. A recipient cannot use the preview URL to bypass access controls. Use the published URL only after publication succeeds.
