Why FormBuilder

Why FormBuilder fits file uploads

Keep the files with the request

Collect a résumé with an application, reference photos with an inquiry, or supporting documents with a registration. Attachments stay associated with their response and original filenames.

Choose the files you accept

Set a file-type preset, a maximum size, and whether one field accepts multiple files. You can set minimum and maximum counts; each response can contain at most 20 files across all upload fields.

Download from the response

Authorized owners and collaborators can open a response and download individual attachments or use Download all. Files are private; receiving the form link does not grant access to other people’s uploads.

Limits, separated

File size is different from account storage

These are separate limits. A 100 MB storage allowance does not mean you can upload a single 100 MB file on Free. Lower field settings and remaining account storage also apply.

Maximum per file10 MB100 MB

Monthly responses100; extra responses held until upgrade10,000

For example, three 4 MB photos use about 12 MB of storage. They fit a Free field set to allow at least three images up to 5 MB each, provided the account has enough storage left.

If one of these describes your situation better, use it. Each links to a full comparison.

1

Tally

Free uploads up to 10 MB per file, multiple files and no fixed total-storage limit under its fair-use policy. Useful when storage volume matters more than a fixed allowance.

2

Cognito Forms

100 MB per file on Individual and 250 MB on Pro, Team and Enterprise. Consider it when individual files exceed FormBuilder’s 100 MB Pro ceiling.

3

Typeform

Uploads require Basic or above and allow one file up to 10 MB per question. Multiple attachments need separate upload questions.

Questions

Questions about file upload forms

What is the best form builder for file uploads?

Choose a form builder by the files you need to collect: size per file, number of attachments, total storage and who can download them. FormBuilder supports multiple files on Free, with a 10 MB per-file ceiling and 100 MB account storage; Pro raises those to 100 MB per file and 1 GB storage. Tally and Cognito Forms offer different limits worth comparing below.

Is there a free form builder for file uploads?

Yes. FormBuilder's free plan is $0 forever with 5 active forms, 100 responses a month, the AI form generator, email notifications, CSV export, embedding, webhooks and Zapier. Responses beyond 100 a month are held, not lost, and unlock on Pro ($39 / month or $390 / year).

Does FormBuilder have file uploads templates?

Yes — for example Job Application, Picture Upload Form Template, Multi-step Job Application Form. Open any template, edit it in the drag-and-drop builder or ask the AI generator for a variant, then publish.

Can I collect file uploads on the free plan?

Yes. Free supports file upload fields and optional multiple files, with 10 MB per file, 100 MB total account storage and 100 responses per month. You can set a lower size or file-count limit for a field.

Which file types can FormBuilder accept?

Supported types include PDF, Word documents, spreadsheets, text, common images, ZIP and selected design formats such as AI, EPS, PSD, SVG and CDR. Choose a preset in the field settings. Executables and unsupported formats are blocked; “All supported files” does not mean every file type.

Do respondents need a FormBuilder account to upload a file?

No. Respondents can attach files to a published form without creating a FormBuilder account. Any form password, availability settings or upload limits still apply.

Can anyone with the form link download submitted files?

No. The public form link lets someone submit a response. Downloading existing attachments requires authorized access to the response.
